What's New in the Libbyverse?

Well, I got a haircut, so there's that.  The picture of me on the side of this blog is from about six years ago.  I did have two toned hair for a long long time.  I've also had a buzz cut and several other gems of hairstyles.  Now, it's more traditional looking but mostly because I'm lazier.

I didn't really intend to tell you about my hair.  It was supposed to be a one line joke.  Oops!  Okay.  So what has been happening?  Well, the hubby and I checked out Raleigh again and we're convinced it is for us.  It's small but urban.  It's inexpensive yet there's lots to do and lots of cultural events.  I love love love DC but the money it costs to live here is crazy.

Also, I'm one step closer to my short story collection release.  Altersensor's Broken is officially done.  Now, I have to conquer The Two Doctors and get them edited and we will be in business.

Not so two toned!
I have finished chapter one of Tough Girl - third draft - and am midway through chapter two.  This draft feels right.  I know I'll need to make changes and edit but this feels so much better than drafts one and two.  My writing time/schedule is set which is a huge improvement.

I'm nearly done with my first copywriting assignment.  Wish me luck.  :)

Also, I've been setting aside some blogging time, not just to write but also to read all your wonderful blogs.  It still won't be as much as it used to, but I think I've cracked the code to at least visit your blogs twice a week.  :)

AND - you can get geared up for a few new Recent Reads I'd Recommend.  I've missed those myself.  I love talking books.  It's kind of my thing.

What about you blogosphere?  What have you been up to?

Eleven Answers

I've been blog hopping during my break from creative writing into copywriting today.  :)  I just read a list of super groovy answers to odd questions by Sara at Cutest Landing.  Sara's in my writing group and she comes up with some pretty imaginative stuff, but her off the cuff comments are usually a good mix of awesome/odd/creative/awkward.  You should check out her blog if you get a chance.  To make this post as easy as possible, I stole her questions.  :)

1) If you could change one law, what would it be and why?

I'd make speed limits higher if that counts or I'd outlaw speedbumps.
2) If you could say one thing to anyone, without any consequences, what would you say, and to whom?
There are multiple people I would tell to screw off.
3) What is your biggest fear?
Eternity.
4) Who is your favorite super hero?
Don't think I have one, but I do have favorite villains.  Every incarnation of The Joker comes to mind...
5) What is your favorite color?
Purple usually
6) What is your most embarrassing moment
I'm kind of a clutz so there are many to choose from.  I'll say it's when I walked directly into a locker in front of a huge group of people in middle school.
7) If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
Belgium for the beer, Iceland for the landscape
8) Dead or alive, who would you most want to meet?
The twin I'm assuming I ate in the womb.  I've always felt like I should have one but I was born alone.
9) If you could talk to the President (prime minister etc) what would you say?
"Hello"
10) If you had to have a paranormal ability or disability, what would you want to have and why?
The ability to eat/drink anything and not gain weight.
11) If you could turn into an animal (but only one) what would you want to turn into and why?
Sloth - for obvious reasons.

You May Not See Me Much For A While

It's sad, I know.  I'm not going on a hiatus but my posting will be spotty at best for the next few months.  I'm working a second job right now as a freelance copy writer.  For right now, it could last for months or just a few weeks, I'm sort of in the "we're trying you out, you're trying us out" phase.  I have high hopes but we'll see how it goes.

This means that much of my time off is spent either preparing copy or working on the novel.  Add some extra hours at the day job to that and my schedule fills up quickly.  I feel like the lady of 1000 excuses here but I promise to post more/read more posts in just a few months.  Do Not Doubt Me!  Or doubt me quietly.  I'll accept either.  :)

Missing all of you!  See you soon!

Do expect some updates on the novel.  And, I may post pics of me stressed out in front of the computer for your viewing pleasure.

The Greatness of Autotune

If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm a nerd.  I geek out over many things including theatre, literature and science.  I also have a healthy respect for youtube videos that use autotune.  It's one of my things.  In that respect (and because I'm incredibly pressed for time but don't want any of you thinking I'm disappearing) here are some Symphony of Science videos!

And The Drafting is Done!

Or done for now at least.  Today, I start my third and (hopefully) final draft of TG.  Yes, of course I will edit and make changes but this should be my last full draft.  For those of you not keeping track, this will be draft 3.  Still better than plays or screenplays which easily hit the 12-14 draft mark.

As I've been staring at and adjusting an outline for the past week and a half, I don't really have much to report from Libbyland.  I'm rereading Catch -22 and finding it more challenging than I did at 18.  I'm listening to lectures on the biology of human behavior and finding them fascinating.  Also, the hubby and I are heading down to Raleigh again soon to check it out for a future move.

Anyone else about to start/restart a huge project?
