The Road for Tough Girl

I want to thank everyone that was so supportive during the A-Z challenge.  I was nervous about posting snippets from my debut novel, Tough Girl, and the all the great feedback was much appreciated.  I did get one question frequently: When will Tough Girl be released?  That is an excellent question.  Here is the long answer:

I have already had Tough Girl critiqued by one beta reader.  The critique went well and helped me immensely.  I have reworked and rewritten several parts including the end.  The piece is much stronger now.

Pretend this month is August...
My next round of beta readers are lined up and the critique will take place in early June.  Once I've had that critique done and all rewrites completed, then I will send the novel off to an editor and begin consulting a book cover artist.  The timing works well because the hubby and I move in late June.

Drum roll please/Short Answer:

Tough Girl, if all goes well, will be released in August.

In the mean time, I'm still trying to get my last short story to come together.  I want to release the new short story collection in late June but I am fighting with The Victory Rule.  Once you read it, you will know why.  I'm jumping back and forth in time as well as tone.  Not easy.  But then again, that's half the reason I write short stories, to try new techniques.

I'm also going to spend some time reading up on self-publishing.  I'd be lying if I said I was looking forward to all the work, but I'll knock it out.

And I want to give a big thank you to MPax for the editor recommendation.  Tomorrow, MPax releases a free story.  I will provide links here.

Any big plans in your future as well?

  1. Great that you are so positive. May I suggest the Internet Writing Workshop for excellent critique help? When my recent work, composed with co-writer Edith Parzefall, was accepted by a publisher, he commented that the novel hardly required any editing. Your critique partners give you all the help you need and of course you do the same for them.

  3. Fantastic news, and good luck with publishing TOUGH GIRL! Big plans? I'm planning the release of my debut crime thriller ORACLE in July, and writing all the guest posts in preparation for the blog tour. Also researching some local promo events: book signings, readings, etc. And at some point I have to squeeze in writing book 2. Busy, busy!

  6. Wonderful news! See how the A-Z helped you. You do exactly the right thing in getting it critiqued and betaed (by as many people as possible). Whip it into shape and I'll be watching out for the news of its release :-)
